Papercuts have been created for thousands of years in China and have continued to evolve. The paperdoll papercut is specifically connected to shamanism. Paperdolls are used to chase away disease, demons, protect the dwelling, clear the sky & stop the rain, or bring rain & fight drought. Many of the paperdolls, their imagery, are related to fertility and honoring the creation goddess, Nu Wa.
